Rodney Alcala: The background

Rodney Alcala: The Background

Rodney James Alcala was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1943 to parents Anna Maria Gutierrez and Raoul Alcala. Known as the "Dating Game Killer" or "John Berger", Alcala's father left when he was just a boy, after they went to mexico. When his father left, Rodney, his siblings, and his money moved back to the US, this time in Los Angeles, California. At 17, Alcala enlisted in the army but he got discharged in 1964 for alleged sexual misconduct along with a nervous breakdown, maybe being the first clue of his future.

Rodney attended California State University then transferred to UCLA and graduated with a fines arts degree in 1968. Rodney fled California the year he graduated, following his first known assault. Continuing on from his childhood, Rodney grew up being troubled mentally with patterns of sexual misconduct and over all messy behavior. Psychologically, there are many inklings as to why Rodney Alcala ended up being a serial killer, kidnapper, and rapist but it's only right to point the finger at his messed up childhood.

But...what's even entailed in Rodney Alcala's crazy future?

Rodney Alcala: The Dating Game

The dating game was a show where one bachelorette would ask 3 eligible bachelors a series of questions before she would choose whether or not to go on a date with any one of them. On set there would be a wall blocking the bachelorette from seeing the 3 men until the date has been picked. Just to make sure she wouldn’t pick based on looks.  Though “The Dating Game”  never did any background checks. So when Alcala appeared on the show, he had already  murdered 5 women and had raped and attempted to murder 8 year old Tali Shapiro, was already on the most wanted list and had already served 34 months in prison for child molestation and than spent 2 and half years in prison for giving drugs to a 13 year old girl. He was later known as the "Dating Game Killer". At the end of the game the bachelorette, Cheryl Bradshaw, had picked Alcala to go on a date with her. They were both supposed to go and get tennis lessons as a part of the first date, then they woul...
